Hip Surgery Education

Osteoarthritis of the Hip

This type of arthritis, also called "degenerative joint disease," is a breakdown of the cartilage in your hip joint. As this protective cartilage wears away, bone rubs against bone. Bony growths called "bone spurs" may form in the joint. Pain from osteoarthritis can keep you from being as active as you like.

Total Hip Replacement, Anterior Approach

This surgery replaces diseased and damaged portions of the hip with implants designed to restore function to the hip joint. The surgeon uses an incision on the anterolateral part of the hip, instead of a more traditional incision on the side or back of the joint.

Joint Replacement Surgery: HIP

The key to a successful surgery and recovery is knowledge and preparation! You have a vital role to play along with your surgeon and their team, anesthesiologists, nurses and physical therapists. Reading, understanding, and implementing the information provided to you in your joint replacement manual and the associated videos will help prepare you for your joint replacement journey and give you the knowledge and tools to manage successfully after your surgery.
